Newlywed questions: bride and groom walking at a beach with boulders in the background

Looking for ways to celebrate love? The Newlywed Game is the perfect solution, whether you need a fun way to celebrate a couple at their engagement party or bachelorette celebration. You can even play this game at bridal showers and after you tie the knot!

Not only is it fun to play, but it’s also easy to put together, so you can focus on other tasks at hand — like getting the decorations or sending out the digital invitations for your event. Here, we’ll show you how to play the Newlywed
Game
and give you a list of top questions to include on your list.

How to Play the Newlywed Game

Newlywed questions: bride and groom playing a wedding game

The Newlywed Game was a TV show where couples who recently tied the knot were asked a series of questions — ranging from the mundane to the suggestive and outrageous. The goal of the game was to see which couples were the most in sync and knew each other best. Today, the Newlywed game is a popular engagement party, bridal shower, and co-ed bachelor/bachelorette party game.

Before the event:

  • Create a list of 15 to 30 questions to ask the couple. The goal is to see how many questions they can respond to with the same answer, demonstrating how well they know each other.
  • Once you have the list of questions, send it to the couple and ask them to answer each one individually. Remind them they shouldn’t work together — that would ruin the fun and the purpose of the game!
  • Have them send you their list of answers and hang on to these until the big day.

At the shower or couples event, put on your game host cap. You can have fun with it by dressing up as a game show host or keep it simple by introducing yourself as the game leader.

Here’s how to play:

  • Go through the list of questions, asking each couple to guess how their partner answered. You can give them whiteboards or chalkboards to write down their answers.
  • Allocate 10 to 15 seconds for each answer and then ask the couple to unveil their responses.
  • If you want, you can get the guests in on the fun by having them guess as well using their own piece of paper to track answers.
  • After revealing the answer to each question, award points for every correct response.
  • The partner and/or audience member with the most points wins a special prize.

Supplies needed:

  • Printed or digital list of questions and answers for the host
  • 2 small whiteboards or chalkboards
  • 2 whiteboard markers or pieces of chalk
  • 1 prize
  • Optional: Printed answer sheet for guests to play along
  • Optional: 1 additional prize for guests
