A Stunning New York Wedding with Woodland-Inspired Details
Sara and Andy took their two favorite cities—their hometown of Rochester, New York and their current city of Portland, Oregon—and incorporated both locations into one incredible theme. And why not? There’s no better time than a wedding to celebrate the places that have our hearts. Sara told us, “We called the style of our wedding ‘bringing Oregon to New York.’ We wanted a woodsy, outdoorsy feeling, but nothing too rustic or country.”
In the words of the bride, “I wanted traditional wedding attire, but because New York is hot in summer (it was 85 degrees and humid), I decided on a lightweight, flowing skirt and lightweight floral dresses for my bridesmaids. The men had traditional tuxes and we lucked out with ties that matched the dresses.”
“I wanted to bring elements of our new home to the wedding. We found the Jerris Wadsworth Wedding Barn, which not only fit our wedding size and budget, but also had a lot of beautiful natural elements so that we could enjoy the outdoors.”
“Our ceremony was outdoors under two massive willow trees with a pond behind us, and our florist used bright colors with a wildflower inspiration. I asked my bridesmaids to wear a white floral dress to compliment the woodland theme and it looked stunning.”
“Our reception had lawn games and a large estate for the guests to wander around.”
“Our Best Man and friend performed our first-dance song acoustically, and we performed a bridesmaid dance for the groom to “The Way You Make Me Feel,” by Michael Jackson. It was important for us to throw a party for everyone to enjoy, and I know our guests had a blast!”
“I would not recommend planning a wedding across the country! But with an enormous amount of help from family, friends and our amazing wedding planner, we had an amazing day. Having a wedding planner was one of the best decisions we made because we were able to enjoy our wedding day without worrying about any logistical details.”
Sara and Andy’s 3 Tips for Engaged Couples:
- Use Greenvelope!
- Hire a wedding planner for as much as you need, but especially a day-of coordinator.
- Take weekends off from planning to enjoy each other.
Sara and Andy decided to use Greenvelope and Paperjam Press for their wedding invitations, and the final design was stunning:
“I researched invitation sites and companies and wasn’t overjoyed with the prices and designs. We had about 250 invitees, so I was a bit overwhelmed! We also wanted to reduce the amount of paper and waste created due to our wedding. I happened upon Greenvelope during my research and LOVED the idea of simplifying the invite and RSVP process. I also found a design that really fit our theme! Our parents were not quite as excited about it so we compromised and printed about 50 invitations from a local print shop to send to family for keepsakes. The whole year of planning we were so thankful to have the Greenvelope RSVP tracker and messaging system. And our parents loved it once they saw it later. I will recommend it to all my friends!”
