A Man’s Guide to Proposing (Part Two: Tips from a Woman)
Love makes anything and everything suddenly possible. When a woman is truly in love, the thought of marrying and spending the rest of her life with her significant other is only a kneel away. Ideas of when and how he will propose starts flashing inside her mind. Â This means that she is ready and waiting to see how you will pop the question.
1. Down Memory lane
As Cliff mentioned in Part One, waiting for the right time and finding the right place is very important. Â A time and place with sentimental value is much more important than the size of the rock (for most women). Â Find out ahead of time if her schedule is free or wait till your next anniversary and propose at the place where you first met or shared your first kiss. If you met in a city different than the one you are currently residing in, surprise her with plane tickets! Or if there was another moment in time that both of you are very fond of, take her there and recreate the experience.
2. Element of Surprise
You’ve probably heard this one many times because it’s absolutely true! Even though it may seem like you can’t surprise us since we are already imagining and expecting the proposal to happen, the element of surprise is still important. Â It means that you actually put thought into this very special moment. One night when you know she is free, send her a Greenvelope invitation and surprise her with a private dinner table surrounded by flower petals and hanging lights.
There is a story about a woman who never really expected her long time boyfriend to propose. Then on Valentine’s Day at their favorite restaurant, she reached into the bread basket and found a velvet box instead. She cried and cried and that’s why the surprise element is important. We want to be overwhelmed with emotions.
3. Bucket List
Going back down memory lane, you remember her saying that her dream was to visit Rome or swim with dolphins. Here’s your perfect chance to make her dream come true and more! Make it a special anniversary trip or a surprise getaway and then as she is admiring the Colosseum, pop the question!
4. That Speech
Continuing from Part One, we want the speech to be extra sweet but not too long. Talk about how you felt and what you thought the first time you met her. Depending on the setting, bring up old memories that will make both of you smile and laugh and then the perfect transition… “Those times we spent together were the best times of my life and I want to keep making memories with you.  Will you marry me?”
Whether or not you decide to plan an elaborate proposal or keep it simple, if she loves you, she will keep on loving you. Â Just remember this moment is big for BOTH of you, so make it count!
